We wake up early. The J & A Fishpen Resort has a very unique entrance. Air roots from some plants are tied to the side to built a curtain and giving shade while coming to the reception and open air restaurant. Martin wants to have a flight with the only zipline on the island of Camiguin.

We order breakfast. Today it’s for Martin the large pancake complimented with hot coffee. I decide to have again the Filipino breakfast with rice, egg, and tocino (fried marinated pork) and coffee.

The food prices are moderate but the serves are large. The meals consists mostly of fish and seafood, but they serve some dishes of chicken and pork. Guest can angle the fish from marked fish cages. Than the fish will be weight out and cooked. Prices go by the 100 gms.

If there is high tide guests can dip their feet in the overfloating floating restaurant hut. The floating huts have an additional charge of PHP 100.

There are ample rooms to stay in J & A Fishpen Resort and they are construction a few more. There are even some rooms in the mangrooves and the occupants can have a nice sleep just a few centimeters over the lagoon waters. There are different dormitory style rooms with and without aircon available for groups. If you have some questions just ask friendly Jenny at the counter, she will be most helpful like all the rest of the staff at J & A Fishpen Resort.

We had some good chats with the manager in charge of the zipline, Analos Jaquilmac and her assistant. They will accompany Martin on his maiden flight and will try to capture this event on film and photographs.

Touristic Research Tour Camiguin - Zip - LineThe service multicab will bring them up to the first launch station. That station is located at the slopes in the mountains at the end of the lagoon. The zipline has three cables and the first launch station is 150 meters above sea level. The distance from the first launch pad to the first landing station is 840 meters and the flyers will cross the whole lenght of the lagoon.

My friend Martin has been launched on the middle cable and is in midair.

I’m waiting at the first landing pad. He is still all smiles. After I have climbed that steel stairs and crossed that hanging bridge to second launch pad, I decide next time we come here with a group of tourists, I will try it myself. Hehe, still self-confident, we will see.

At the landing station flyers will climb up on steel stairs and a short hanging bridge to second launch pad. Also this zipline consists of three cables with a lenght of 340 meters and will bring you back right into the heart of the resort.

At the second launch pad the two ladies are ready to fly back to the resort. It is another sort of excitement, this time the flight is not the hight, this times its getting lower and lower to the water until reaching the landing point. Martin will follow right after when I have my camera in order and changed the battery.

This was enjoyable for everyone and is highly recommended to have a try on the only zipline in Camiguin at the J & A Fishpen Resort.

Compared to the zipline in Dahilayan in Bukidnon, I like this one here in Camiguin for a few reasons better. Flying over the lagoon is on of them. Reaching the final point beside the restaurant is a great plus, because no one has to climb back uphills like in Dahilayan.

To give the traveller some more impressions of the zipline, just after our experience a large group of tourists arrived. In the end 16 of them were ready to try it. A mixed group. Everybody has to sign a waiver before launching and flying on the zipline for PHP 400.

Here coming two flyers from the second launch pad, flying low over the fish cages to final reach the last landing station.

If you see this smile on the face of this young lady, everyone must be convinced this was enjoyable.

See you tomorrow for our island hopping trip to the island of Mantigue from here to enjoy a white beach while in Camiguin.

We checked out by Yvonne’s Cottages and said good bye to Yvonne and Wolfgang.

There are some roads leading to Ardent Hot Springs and all are well marked.

Camiguin Touristic Research TripThere is an entrace fee of PHP 30. The place is equipped with a restaurant, offers huts and shades, a kiosk for snacks and drinks, accomodation for staying over night in the inviting hot sulfuric waters of different pools.

We wandered around the place to explore.

There are large pools with different water temperatures. They are well taken care off. A huge net is used so leafes can’t drop into the water. It was monday and not much people here. Visitors are allowed to stay even in the nighttime in the pools.

The hot sulfuric water has therapeutic value and helps a lot to ease pains.

A cozy restaurant and new bungalows and renovated dorms awaiting the guest to stay.

We are on the way to our next point of interest. The Katibawasan Falls. They are on the other side of the provincial capital of Mambajao. Beside the Jetty gasoline station we find the road to the falls. There is not enough parking space, just the road up to the entrace gate. Some resident living beside it made a business out of it to offer paid parking for PHP10.

Also here we pay a moderate entrance fee of PHP 30 before the gate is opend for us.

After a short walk we see and hear the roaring Katibawasan Falls. 75 meters falling the water into a cemented pool. The water is refreshing cool and good for a dip to cool off.

Outside are some souvenier stores with t-shirts, women’s dresses and other small items, food stores selling cold drinks and snacks like a large crispy cracker called ‘kiping’, an a thing I never heard of before, vinegar made from lanzones. It’s not lanzones season yet, we will have to wait till september, october. It’s the time, when the whole island is in the lanzones festival fever.

We made up our minds and move on back to the Taguines Lagoones to stay there another day. The friendly staff is surprised to see us so soon again and all smiles.

We walk around the lagoon. Passing by the boat rental, another lodging and restaurant, an eco-garden and come to the Lagoon Bistro by the coastal road. From the outside the place doesn’t gives a trustworthy impression. We decide to check it out anyway. From the inside it looks much better with a reasonable priced foodmenue. We sit ourselves close to the water and have a cold drink and a dish of calamares to share. From here we can watch some zip-line users flying over the lagoon.

It’s getting dark and we pass the causeway with coastal road. It is low tide. Water is running out of the lagoon into the sea. Here people gather shells and other seafoods in the remaining light of the day.

We have a beer on the veranda and talk about the plans for the next day – Zip-line and the promising white beaches of the island of we Mantigue we can even still see from here.

Touristic Research Tour to Camiguin – Part 4

It was already late afternoon and I wanted to find an old place I remembered from many years before. I had forgotten the name. We decided to follow the signboard to Yvonne’s Cottages and came to a very large, very well kept garden and… a mini golf place. We parked and looked around. A woman came toward us with all smiles, Yvonne. We asked if she had a vacant room for us. She had. Her rooms come with a complete kitchen, she serves no meals. She made an exeption for us and prepared a beautiful meal for us. A few minutes later arrived her husband – German Wolfgang. Austrian Frank sitting on a barstool with Wolfgang. I joined for a cold beer. Later that evening arrived French Roland. After our sumptous meal we kept on drinking and talking, talking and drinking. It was a very nice evening.

When we woke up next morning, the sun was already up. Yvonne made for us a hearty breakfast. Since we didn’t find the resorts from the road, we decided to take our luck from the sea side by walking the beach.

Yvonne’s Cottages offers three (3) room with an additional kitchen, but there are more accomodations in the neighborhouse, belonging to the the family on this large estate fronting the sea. The water is clean and clear and always good for dip and a swim but no real beach.

The island of Camiguin is not so much for the beachcombers but more for the divers with its underwater beauties. From the beach side we dropped in to the “Camiguin Action Geckos”. It’s a dive resort. The beach is clean and not used for parking fishing boats. A large open air restaurant and a few cozy cottages in nice relaxing atmosphere. There we got served delicate and tasty homemade icecream. When you passing by you have to try it.

We moved on along the beach. Many fishermen have made here their home. The place looks very rustical and nice with colorful fishing boats. Not so far is blinking in the sun what they call on Camiguin “White Island”. It’s just a naked sandbar made of white sand and broken corals. There are no trees, no shades. People will be there under a merciless sun. We decided not to go there. There are more and nicer places to see and enjoy while on Camiguin Island.

Camiguin Touristic Research Trip

Camiguin Touristic Research Trip

There was no more way to walk along the beach. We made our way through a coconut plantation to the main road and turned back to our place.

A huge old house is used for having live music to listen to.

Not far from there we see Frank sitting on a barstool. It’s his wife’s indoor and outdoor restaurant called “Camiguin Kambingan”. It is on the mainroad in Bug-ong. Native goat dishes are served here. Pity we couldn’t wait for todays grand opening with “Eat all you can”. For international dishes they have another restaurant, the “Terrace” in Naasag, just 2 kms away from here.

We moving on, picking up the van from Yvonne’s Cottages and make our way to Ardent Hot Springs. That will be the story for tomorrow. Only so much, it’s really a nice place and worth a visit and even a stay over night to get soaked in hot water.

Before we reach the place Martin needed to buy some bananas. See you tomorrow guys.
